Materials and Techniques: Wooden board, blue oil paint, cutouts from reproduction postcards and/or art books, glass covering, clear tape frame.
Description: Attached to the surface of a wooden board is a double-sided beach scene. Blue oil paint represents water and cutouts of figures and animals are placed into the scene. Front: A woman stands while holding her hair back in her left hand (Tahitian Women Bathing, 1892, Paul Gauguin, French, Paris 1848-1903 Atuona, Hiva Oa, Marquesas Islands, The Metropolitan Museum of Art), a boy stands with his hands on his waist (The Bather, 1885, Paul Cézanne, French, Aix-en-Provence 1839-1906 Aix-en-Provence, MoMA), and a woman stands to the right with her arms raised behind her head (Standing Woman Bather, 1900, Aristide Maillol, French, Banyuls-sur-Mer 1861–1944 Perpignan, The Hermitage). Two small fish swim in the water. Reverse side: A woman stands to the left (Standing Nude, 1907, Henri Matisse, French, Le Cateau-Cambrésis 1869–1954 Nice, Tate), a woman is seated on the sand with her legs folded (The Brooding Woman, 1891, Paul Gauguin, French, Paris 1848–1903 Atuona, Hiva Oa, Marquesas Islands, Worcester Art Museum), and a woman stands in the water and holds her garment in her hands (A Woman bathing in a Stream, 1654, Rembrandt van Rijn, Dutch, Leiden 1606–1669 Amsterdam, The National Gallery). A small penguin stands in the distance in the far left hand corner.
