Description: The bust of an African tribal woman rests on top of a cylindrical, wooden form painted gold. She is represented with three wooden forms stacked on on top of the other. The first wooden form narrows towards its top, representing her neck. Brass coils wrap around this form in the style of a tribal necklace. The next wooden form is flat on the backside and curved towards the front. The center of the front side is carved into the shape of large lips. This form represents the lower half of the woman’s face, which is dominated by her lips. The wooden form that rests on top has two identical, round indentations on both sides of its curved surface. These carvings represent the woman’s eyes, and the central wooden surface that is not indented represents her nose. Earrings with small wooden beads dangle from both sides of her head, suggesting pierced ears.
