Description: Attached to a vertical, rectangular wooden block is the form of a human figure made from wooden kitchen utensils. The back of the bowl of a wooden spoon represents his head. A small portion of the attached handle represents his neck. Below this, the back of an upside-down larger wooden spoon’s bowl represents his torso. Two identical long and narrow wooden utensils represent his outstretched arms, while two other identical long and narrow wooden utensils represent his outstretched legs. The bottoms of these two wooden utensils flare representing his feet.

Title: Strolling Spoons (working title)

Materials and Techniques: Wooden spoons, wooden jar cover
Description: Two walking figures are represented using two wooden spoons. The rounded end of each spoon represents each of their heads, while the handle of each spoon represents the rest of the body. Intersecting the mid-point of each of their bodies is another portion of a spoon handle, representing a second, back leg that is supporting each of their animated postures. Two pieces of wood are also attached to the upper portion of each of the spoon handles, representing arms that are swinging outwards. One spoon is larger than the other, suggesting that the figures are different in age or in gender. These figures are attached to a very thick, round, dark wooden base whose diameter tapers slightly towards its bottom.

Title: Sculler

Materials and Techniques: Wooden block, wooden forms, wooden spoons
Description: Attached to a narrow wooden block is the image of a person stretching in a seated position. Two identical wooden forms represent the person’s outstretched legs, or, the front of a boat. A large wooden spoon is placed at a 45-degree angle from the legs, representing the person’s back and head that leans forward. At the points where the handle of the large spoon meets the spoon’s bowl are two identical spoons, representing the person’s arms, or possibly, sculls. The bowls of these spoons extend toward the toes, or boat.

Materials and Techniques: Wooden spoon, white plastic, wooden form painted blue, black marker
Description: A large wooden spoon rests face down on a blue-painted rectangular wooden base that has one side that projects outward in a rounded shape. The rounded side of the spoon, which echoes the rounded edge of the base, rests above it in perfect alignment. The rounded side of the spoon represents the whale’s head. Two pieces of white plastic that are cut into a floral shape and outlined in black marker represent the whale’s eyes, which are located on each side of the upside-down spoon. In addition, the same white plastic is used to represent the whale’s teeth which are exposed in a wide grin outlined in black marker. The curled end of the spoon’s handle represents the whale’s tail.
