Subject: Plants
Measurements: 24” W x ½” D x 26 ¼” H
Materials and Techniques: Wooden board, toothpicks, white, orange, and gold paint, blue glass beads
Description: A wooden board painted white serves as the background for this still-life of two potted plants. Both pots are orange and outlined with toothpicks. Toothpicks also form the plants that grow out of each pot. The plant on the left has two main branches, with additional stems and leaves branching from them. Gathered at the base of this pot are leaves, also of toothpicks, that appear to have fallen from the plant’s branches. The plant on the right is composed of toothpicks that are painted gold. One large stem grows from the pot, branching into two stems, each ending in a single flower. The petals of the flowers are composed of gold-painted toothpicks assembled in a radial pattern, projecting from the blue glass bead that represents each flower’s stigma.
