Materials and Techniques: Wooden box, wooden forms, wicker, wood stain
Description: Within the frame of a square-shaped wooden box is the image of a woman’s face. The shape of her face is outlined with a wood stain and a curved piece of wood also outlines her chin and cheeks. A variety of wooden forms represent her facial features. A wooden form painted black protrudes from the surface of the box, representing her nose. Another black wooden form in the shape of a protractor represents her smiling mouth. Two wooden rings with faded black paint represent her eyes and within these rings, two hollowed-out wooden balls further articulate the features of her eye. Two strands of horizontal, curved wicker are attached on her forehead, representing lines in her skin. A long, curved wooden form, representing her hair, extends from one side of her head to the other, draping down the left side of her face, and emerging from her box frame.
