295. Goosing

Goosing 1 Goosing 2

Title: Goosing (working title)
Date: 1988 (The date is etched onto the box. However, this piece originally appeared without the box in 1980. Therefore, the ducks themselves must have been created before 1980.)
Subject: Mating Ducks
Measurements: 13 1/8” W x 5 ¾” D x 10 ¾” H
Materials and Techniques: Wooden box, plastic grass, glass panel, blue poster-board, wooden shoe lasts
Description:  A wooden box placed horizontally on its side and enclosed with a glass panel serves as a diorama containing two mating ducks. Plastic green grass lines the floor of the box, while blue poster-board lines the back wall, representing the sky. The two ducks are represented identically.  An upside down wooden shoe-last represents each of their bodies. One curved heel-portion of a wooden shoe last, attached at the arch of the shoe-last, represents each duck’s head and neck. The ducks are in a mating position, as one duck has mounted the back of the other.
Signed: “NSG 88” etched onto side of box
Note: The two ducks were exhibited without the surrounding box at the Camden Art Centre Exhibition in 1980.
